Just arrived home from a great weekend (even though the famous unbearable heat didn't show)! I will be sleeping within 30sec but just wanna give a HUGE thanks to Çakır family that with enormous hospitality let me see their city.

Waste management

When you live in a city with 17 million inhabitants some things doesn't work like you are used to. This is the waste management at my street. Well, why not??

Civil vs. Computer engineering at KTH

Mert advised me not to post these photos on the blog cause it would make all turkish engineering students wanna emigrate to Sweden. That sounded to funny to resist! So first two pics are swedish civil engineering students.

The two following pics shows an old swedish university tradition. In Sweden every department has jumpsuits in different colours for festive occations. What is the most fitting for computer engineering? Pink of course!

Comment: these photos are not mine but randomly taken from facebook

Arabic

Abdullahs phone made me stunned for about half an hour. Now afterwards its hard to explain why, the letters behind are kind of changing when you write forward... Anyway, they have a letter who looks like a smiley! :)

Good bless Starbucks

I generally spend about five hours a day after class to homework. At those times I love Starbucks.

Fuck its cold.

Fuck its cold.

Hmm dinner time, what do we have at home? .... Popcorn...??

Ahh found the meat balls from Sweden I made yesterday that Musa refused to eat (apparently pork), weei...!

This is how I will continue spending my night - with turkish homework and my feet on the radiator.

Täby accident

This 16-year old girls blog (Täby, Sweden) made me cry today.
So did her fathers.

When it's not possible to move more than 200 meters from your from front door you are happy that you have friends within that reach!

Çoook kalabalık

In Istanbul is the traffic always "çok kalabalık" (very chaotic) but when its snowing it gets "çoooooooook kalabalık". Today its seriously storming - it's snowing like crazy and the wind is so strong that it's kinda snowing upwards and I just wanna cry. Half my class wasn't able to get to school today and for me it took 2h to get home (when it usually takes 30min). My evening plans was canceled cause its not possible to go anywhere any longer.

Öldu

I saw I dead man lying on the street today. His face was covered with newspapers and his body was in a really weird position. It took me a while to realize it was not a movie shot.

I guess we should respect the traffic here better...

Roofs of Taksim

I came to early to school today so I climbed the roof of the building and found an amazing view. But why does it look like a ghetto from above when its so beautiful from the street??

White campus

This morning instead of having breakfast I rushed down to campus for taking some snowy pictures.
One of the homeless dogs followed me, it was so beautiful! But noone could ever say what race it is..

Pink rubber boots

It has been snowing in Istanbul. It's the same temperature as in Stockholm (around 0°C), two weeks ago it was 30 degrees warmer in Istanbul than Stockholm (15°C vs. -15°C).

Our turkish teacher told yesterday that in February 1987 it was 1,5m high snow here and the schools were canceled for one month. It's expected more snow til the weekend...

New class

I was as you know attending a language course in Izmir and wanted to continue the same course in Istanbul and technically it was possible if the class not was already full - which of course it was.

So what to do? You simply ignore that and go to class monday morning anyway. Some slight registration problems later I was actually in the class. Everything is possible with a strong will and a questioningly smile!

Defeat with Tarkan

Im back in Istanbul, dear dear Istanbul. Maybe I should have tried harder to adapt in Izmir, but I just felt so extremy lonley.

But Istanbul welcomed me back with open arms, a firework show and a Tarkan consert! (It might also have been cause it was the opening of Istanbul 2010 European Capital of Culture, but I have hard to believe so...)

Who could have thought I would be so childishly excited about firework? I used to hide every new year with my parents friends dog...

While angry

I have not many bad things to say about turkey but now is the moment to say some.
Why can nothing EVER have signs here?? Its not worth having a map in this country because the streets arent signed anyway. And for me in Izmir right now they ALL look the same!!

And the public communications!! 1. Please, put a sign where there is a bus station, now I just guess that there might be one where people are standing in a cluster randomly at the sidewalk. 2. Please show what buses are going from that station. 3. Please show where they are going!!

The ice cream I bought was completely melted after 3 hours strays to find the way home home. Same happened yesterday. I guess I have to find some other food to comfort myself with...

Photo lession

By lucky coincident Adil was in Izmir and had time to show me some new stuff with the camera :)

Positive...

Sometimes its hard to be positive although I always try... But seriously, why am I spending one month in a city where I don't know anyone trying to learn a language that I probably will have absolutely no use for in the future?

Moving

I moved. Everything went so fast, but now Im living in a better part of town with Atakan, who works at Tömer. The apartment is really great with vue of the city and Atakan is gonna cook for me too!

I just counted that my new room is about four times bigger than the old one...!

Old vs. new room

Tongue soup

Sometimes I get really bad ideas. For example ordering cow tongue soup for lunch. I though it might be fun - but really, it was not.
